Syuiab -- good. that is the first question people usually ask. What are the definitions of the terms in the issue.

    hi rus

i think you are right. if everyone could make a perfect baby, why not?

Kevin -- your group might want to tweak the issue a little

-- if DESIGNER babies can be created, should the process be legalised?

This means that the parents "customises" the baby according to the best genes they have; just like the couple we saw in Gattaca.

Alternatively, you would have to define "perfect", as "ethan hunt" pointed out.

If you are talking about designing a baby to your liking like the hair, eyes and removing diseases, I would agree that the process should be legalised. However, this process may mean that in future we may see a entirely new and serious system of how they classified people like in the show that Ms. Chang showed to us(Gattaca). If this happens I believe everyone would be doing it so that their child will not be classified under 'inferior genes'and people will be bias against them.

    Yes, audrey. You are right.

if this hypothetical situation does materialise, the world be entirely different.

If perfect babies can be created, where will all the imperfection stands? In this world, there are the better ones, average and below average human. If all perfect babies can be created, how do we classify human being 20 years down the road? Like firey_snowy has said, 20 years down the road, we may have to classify human by DNA. Is this really fair to those people who are willing to work hard and yet their DNA is below average? The scenario has already been cast at the “Gattaca” movie. Do we really want that kind of classification on earth? Think again.

Valid points -- if everyone is perfect, life becomes rather meaningless.

When this happens, the whole way people live their lives would be changed.

your definition of "perfect" means healthy.

good. Because this goes back to me questioning Kevin's group -- what is "perfect"?

In terms of physical ability? Health? Looks?

    TIme to start thinking.

I like how you argue your point.

You are actually saying, "No, we don't want perfection. WE just want some help to "enhance".

But then again. WHO decides WHAT to enhance?

eLearning week is now officially over. If you choose to blog on to discuss more with your group members, do go on. This will definitely help you in your discussion café.
I would be still accessing this whenever I can.
